A short film by Jamie Stuart, documenting the blizzard in New York City on December 26, 2010. It’s not often (never?) that you get the world’s most famous movie critic excited about a 3 minute film posted on YouTube but in this case Roger Ebert thinks it’s so good it should win an Oscar:
This film deserves to win the Academy Award for best live-action short subject.
(1) Because of its wonderful quality. (2) Because of its role as homage. It is directly inspired by Dziga Vertov’s 1929 silent classic “Man With a Movie Camera.” (3) Because it represents an almost unbelievable technical proficiency. It was filmed during the New York blizzard of Dec. 26, and Jamie Stuart e-mailed it to me with this time stamp: December 27, 2010 4:18:18 PM CST.You can tell from the cinematography he knew exactly what he was doing and how to do it. He held the Vertov film in memory. Stuart must already been thinking of how he would do the edit and sound. Any professional will tell you the talent exhibited here is extraordinary.

If the new TRON film is anywhere as cool as this suite in Sweden’s IceHotel, it’s going to be epic.
From Inhabitat.com:
With the much anticipated 3D TRON: Legacy coming out in theaters next week, a set of British designers are celebrating the Disney movie with a suite at the famous IceHotel above the Arctic Circle in Sweden. The electric blue Tron-inspired lighting scheme is achieved by cutting grooves into the ice, inserting energy efficient EL wire and then icing over the wire to keep it in place. Ben Rousseau and Ian Douglas–Jones’ art suite at the IceHotel, “Legacy Of The River”, is part of their campaign to launch a new line of illuminated furniture and interiors products due out early 2011.

Here is some concept art from the upcoming Alice in Wonderland film by Tim Burton, based on the novel by Lewis Carroll. The movie should hit theaters on March 5, 2010. Time will tell whether Burton can do justice to the storytelling in Lewis Carroll’s classic book, but one thing is virtually certain- it’s going to be an absolute feast for the eyes.
