Sony better launch their worst kept secret, aka the PlayStation phone, soon or they may be not much left to say by the time it is officially announced. If you haven’t yet heard, this is a high-end touchscreen phone running Android designed to play PlayStation-ish games and has a built in slide-out game pad.
Engadget has previewed Sony’s unreleased mobile phone, which they’ve dubbed the Xperia Play. While they were unable to download any bespoke games, they did test some emulated PlayStation and GBA games and were pretty happy with the results.
How games will be delivered, their pricing or how they will mesh with other Sony platforms such as the PS3 and PSP is still a mystery. I’m betting that as long as Sony doesn’t totally muck up the Play’s launch, the simple fact of adding decent gaming buttons to a high-powered phone will do wonders to bolster gaming on the Android platform and of course to Sony’s bottom line.
